Welcome to my website! My main interest is in Deep Learning. I train computers to solve a particular problem and specifically language problems. My current research is in the area of Natural Language Processing.
My name is Pouyan Nahed and currently, I am a third-year Ph.D. student
of Computer Science.
I
love the way that computers are changing the world and how they enable us to build a better place to
live. My curiosity about computers started since I was a child when I saw my family using these mysterious
boxes! This curiosity continued inside me until I grew up and I decided to follow my interest through
studying Computer Science. I have interests in many different areas but my main interest lies in
Machine Learning
and Deep Learning . My passion for Machine Learning originates from my delight
to solve complex
problems with the help of computers. I spend most of my time studying the application of Machine Learning
in different areas such as text and image. The majority of these studies involve Natural
Language Processing.
When I am not engaged in personal projects or studying, I am a big fan of photography. I like the Urban
Photography style because of its colors. You can check out my social networks to see my photos and you're
welcome to leave any comments!
If you want to know more about me or you have any questions feel free to let me know, I would to hear
from you.
Currently, I am enrolled in Computer Science Ph.D. program of University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Also, I am working as graduate assistant.
During my time at University of Guilan I learnt lots of skills that have I have taken through my
career such as teamwork and working to tight deadlines. I thouroughly enjoyed my time as university and learnt a lot about
a healthy work life balance.
I was a member of Computer Scientific Association for one year and I held several
Android workshops.
I am eager to learn and I try to research whenever it is possible. There are lots of things which I
learned in my free times.
You cannot teach a man anything, you can only help him find it within himself.

DeepFlapPyBird is a project that trains an agent using Deep Reinforcement Learning to play the flappy bird game. The agent uses different objects coordinates as input features. I used the OpenAI Gym framework to build a custom environment for observation and related functions. Also, I used the Pytorch framework to build a Fully Connected Neural Network in order to train a deep Q-Learning model.
This project is my final thesis for my undergraduate studies. This project is a classification problem in Natural Language Processing and recognizes the spam messages in the Persian language. I used the TF-IDF algorithm to extract the features from the input texts. For the learning part, I trained an SVM model and I used the Scikit-Learn framework.
I developed this project to practice training the classification models. This project predicts the sentiment of products review of an online shopping website in the Persian language. The project uses the GloVe embedding algorithm to encode the input words to vectors. I utilized the TensorFlow and Keras framework to build an LSTM recurrent neural network to predict the polarity of the reviews.
This project is the final project for one of my undergraduate courses. It is the implementation of the memory image matching game from scratch in Java language. To implement the GUI, I employed the Java Swing package. Also, to incorporate the multiplayer features of the game, I implemented a Socket server-client communication to pass the game information to the other peers.
To satisfy my creativity and learning a little bit of front-end design I tried to build my resume website. I found it a good situation to start learning web developement and practice it by designing my own website. I built this website using HTML & CSS from scratch without using any other framework. Also, I used Vanta.js to create the header background animation.
This one is one of my freelancing projects. It is an Android application that enables the user to design artworks without having any design knowledge. This application is developed merely by Java and Android native package and it can be used on any Android device.
Telegram Cleaner is one of my preliminary personal projects that I developed to get familiar with Android programming. It is a tool to clean Android device internal storage from the files that Telegram has created. It can search for redundant files and remove them to free up space. This project is implemented in Java and Android languages.
Currently, I am working as a Research Assistant at hte University of Nevada, Las Vegas. My research mainly consists of Machine Learnign and Natural Language Processing. We are working to predict the properties of the drugs and clinical trials based on their texutal descriptions by training Deep Neural Networks to finding the missing values. The main data that we use is the clinicaltrials.gov database. Also, we are building a platform for studying Alzheimer's Disease trials using the Django framework.
I have always enjoyed teaching and helping others. During my first year of graduate studies in
the University of Nevada, Las Vegas I have worked as a teaching assistant for a few Computer Science undergraduate courses.
The courses are as followings:
- Analysis of Algorithms (CS 477/677)
- Automata and Formal Languages (CS 456/656)
- Data Structures (CS 302)
- Computer Science II (CS 202)
Black Board is a schools managment system which enables students and thier parents (through appliation) to connect to the school. I was Software Engineer and Senior Android developer at this project. Also I have done some UI design for several pages.
Android is a mobile operating system developed by Google. It is based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and other open source software, and is designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. I have done some freelancing project which helped me to gain precious experiences and implementing theorical concepts that I had read in the university.
